HyperTEK Information

Extensive research and development by CTI and eAc has yielded a high tech, low cost rocket motor alternative to the current solid propellant rocket motor. Hybrid motors have several safety advantages over solids. The fuel and oxidizer are isolated from each other until just before ignition, thus eliminating the requirement for a low explosive permit during transportation and storage of rocket motors. HyperTEK hybrid propulsion system uses a remote fill/fire launch system as well as 100% pyrotechnic free ignition system.

HyperTEK flight motors consist of three major parts: the oxidizer tank, the injector bell and the fuel grain. The fuel grain is molded from thermoplastic and has an insert-molded silica/phenolic nozzle. This monolithic grain functions as both the fuel and the combustion chamber. Complicated assembly of a reloadable system has been eliminated by incorporating the fuel, nozzle and motor case into one injection molded component. The fuel grain simply screws onto the injector bell prior to flight and the spent fuel grain is unscrewed and disposed of after each flight. J and Original L motors include an injector bell with field interchangeable injector orifices for tailoring the time/thrust profile to the needs of the rocket. Potential applications include small sounding rockets, RATO boosters and more.

New HyperTEK Motors Tripoli Certified

Cesaroni Technology Incorporated (CTI) is pleased to announce the recent Tripoli certification of a number of new HyperTEK products. There is now a larger selection than ever of HyperTEK motors, and as always you enjoy all the benefits of HyperTEK - no LEUPs, no HazMat fees, and the lowest cost per flight of any L or M motor system on the market! Add ready availability to that and you can see why HyperTEK motors are becoming more popular every day.

For level 3 fliers, there are two new tank sizes available for the Armageddon M - 3500cc and 5478cc. The 5478cc tank will be offered as an accessory item for those who already own an M motor system. It was designed to get the most ''oomph'' possible out of the M grain, delivering over 10,000 Ns during certification testing with the HyEFX grain. The 3500cc tank will be offered both as a complete motor system with fuel grains included, and as an accessory item. It is designed to provide total impulse in the mid-M range at 6400 - 6500Ns.

A new ''a la carte'' combination of tank and bell was tested - the 2800cc Earthquake L tank, with the M bell and grain. This interesting 75mm combination delivers a total impulse in the 97%L to 1% M range depending on the orifice and grain. Yes we said orifice! Another new product is the 0.200'' orifice option for the Armageddon M bell, which reduces thrust by about 25% and stretches out the burn for those long cruising flights everyone enjoys. Initial thrust is still a hefty 270 pounds, and it will retrofit into your existing M bell. Currently it is certified only on the 2800cc tank, but CTI will be testing this orifice on other tank sizes as well. The M-class 75mm motor configurations are great for L3 certification when you want to keep altitude and flight stresses in check, or for high altitude shots with smaller rockets.

The K240 has always been a favorite of HyperTEK fliers. This 835-125-J combo is great for high altitude shots, delivering 1285Ns over 5.5 seconds.

We have something new for level 1 fliers - the 300cc I system. Using the standard J bell and grain plus a shorter version of the familiar 440cc tank, we have certified a bunch of I class configurations perfect for smaller fields or new HyperTEK fliers. Best of all are the two-shot combos - the 300-098-J and 300-125-J combos can be flown twice with the same standard J grain, cutting your fuel grain cost in half! Note that FX grains cannot be flown twice.

CTI is continuing its commitment to develop and improve HyperTEK products. Several fliers achieved their level 3 certification in 2001 with the Armageddon M system. More and more fliers are discovering the benefits of flying HyperTEK, and dealer and manufacturer support has never been better. Many clubs now offer HyperTEK ground support as part of their launch equipment.

HyperTEK flight motors consist of three major parts: the oxidizer tank, the injector bell, and the fuel grain. The fuel grain is molded from thermoplastic compounds and has an insert-molded phenolic/graphite nozzle. This monolithic grain functions as both the fuel and the combustion chamber. We've eliminated the complicated assembly of a reloadable system by incorporating the fuel, nozzle and motor case into one injection molded component. The fuel grain simply screws onto the injector bell prior to flight and the spent fuel grain is unscrewed and disposed of after each flight. No messy, time consuming clean-up operations are required. Typical motor turn around times between flights can be less than 5 minutes. The injector bell has field interchangeable injector orifices for varying thrust levels to tailor your motor needs of your rocket or launch field.n A 75 mm and a 98 mm diameter oxidizer tanks are available in the line-up making L and M motor fitting into standard motor mounts easier than ever

NOTE; When flying on HyperTec motors, please make sure your altimeter device is capable of withstanding the high frequency during the motor burn. This can reset your acceleration sensor, so use a different way of activating your altimeter. An RDAS for instance can be activated by using a break wire.

Ground Support Equipment and Accessories

The Launch Control System has been designed so that the fragile and heavy pieces are kept safely on the ground, not in the sky. The Launch Control System allows you to fill and ignite your rocket from a safe distance, as well as providing a means to unload the N2O if necessary. When you are ready to launch your rocket, you mount it on the Fill Stem Assembly with the fill stem going up through the fuel grain and sealing in the injector bell. This fill stem consists of two coaxial tubes, one of which fills the oxidizer tank with N2O, the other for providing gaseous oxygen (GOX) to the combustion chamber for ignition. A piece of igniter wire is placed in the fuel grain and is attached to the igniter module. The rocket is then tied down to the Fill Stem Assembly with plastic tie-down straps.

From the Launch Control Box, the N2O fill solenoid is activated and the N2O starts to fill the oxidizer tank. When the liquid N2O reaches the top of the vent tube inside the oxidizer tank, the N2O vents through a hole in the side (or bottom) of the rocket. The vent plume is visible and indicates that the tank is full. The fill solenoid is then shut off. At ignition, the GOX solenoid and Igniter Module are activated. The Igniter Module causes an electrical arc to ignite the end of the igniter wire in the presence of GOX, quickly lighting the fuel grain. The exhaust from the ignition sequence burns through the tie-down straps that secures the rocket to the launch pad. As the Fill Stem tubes fall, the Kline Valve opens and the N2O flows into the combustion chamber immediately bringing the motor up to full thrust.

HyperTEK Fill Stem Assemblies will work with most popular launch stands using a variety of launch rods and rails and can handle rockets from 2 1/8'' to over 6'' in diameter.

The Basic Fill/Fire Launch Control System comes with the Launch Control Box, Igniter Module, Launch Pad Junction Box, N2O and GOX Solenoid Assemblies, N2O and GOX Hoses, a spool of Igniter Wire and a 100' Control Cable. Fill Stem Assemblies are ordered separately.

For those larger L and M launches, you will need the Remote Relay Module and the 500' Control Cable in addition to the Basic Fill/Fire Launch Control System. The Remote Relay module uses an additional battery at the launch pad (not included) and provides safe launch distances for you and your spectators.
